Study Looked at Causes of Work-Related Traffic Accidents

Traffic accidents are one the leading causes of work-related deaths. But relatively few studies have looked at the characteristics and risk factors of work-related traffic accidents. A new study from the IRSST found that the main causes of such accidents are:

  • Distraction or inattention
  • Speeding or careless driving
  • Weather conditions
  • Running a stop sign or red light
  • Temporary obstacle, animal or infrastructure problem
  • Fatigue
  • Vehicular problem
  • Impairment.
